I have some presents for you, the people

olives

When you write a craft book, you actually make all of those projects. If you’re me, your book had over 35 projects in it and when the book has done-been-written, you put all the projects in a nice box and put them on the shelf for a long time. Then, if you’re still me, you fret about what to do with all of them for even longer after that.

Today, I decided that I want YOU to have them. For real.

So, I have 19 felted goodies to give away, free gratis. Some big, some small, some sculptures, some jewelry, some toys, all of them made for “I Felt Awesome” by my two little hands.

How to get your hands on them:

Enter your name to win by leaving a comment below – tell me about your favorite needle felted creation, whether you made it yourself or saw it in a gallery or even online. If you’ve seen or read the book, tell me your favorite project… if you get picked, it’s possible you’ll get to have that very thing as your prize (no promises, but it’s possible).

I’ll draw 19 random winners on Monday, May 6th at 11am PST. (Sorry, but due to the cost of postage, I’ve got to limit this to folks in the US.) One entry per person, ok?

Ready? GO!

UPDATE: 11am PST –  Comments are now closed. Calculating winners now, more info soon! Thanks everyone.

UPDATE 2: 11:21am PST – Random numbers have been generated! Everybody sit tight, I’ll be in touch.

Moxie + Exploratorium = Awesome

Posted by moxie under Events

I grew up in the Bay Area, and have loved the Exploratorium since I was a little kid. I still think of it as one of my all-time happy-places. So when they asked me to come and play with them in The Tinkering Studio, it was like getting a call from my childhood hero and the answer was, of course, YES!

I’ll be doing hands-on, drop-in felting demos throughout the day on March 15 & 16 (hours TBA). The main event is Saturday, March 17th:

A collaboration between the ExploratoriumMAKE Magazine, and Pixar Animation Studios, Open MAKE is a monthly program highlighting the tools, techniques, and ingenuity of local Makers. Visitors are invited to participate in tinkering and making activities inside the Tinkering Studio, where Makers from around the Bay Area will share their work. In addition, Dale Dougherty, founder and editor of MAKE Magazine, will interview Featured Makers in the McBean Theater.

This month’s theme will be tools. Four Featured Makers will be interviewed in the McBean Theater between 1 p.m. and 2 p.m., talking about their work and process, and taking questions from the audience.”

I’ll be one of the featured makers and I hope you’ll come out and play!

One show down, one show to go

Posted by moxie under Events

Having failed to post about the now-over-but-completely-amazing Urban Craft Uprising 6th Winter show, here are some great recaps: Leah Pellegrini did a nice write up with photos and a little video. And, the incomparable Rosalie Gale (of Ugly Baby Shower Art, Unanimous Craft, and bARTer Sauce fame) wrote a great UCU post including some unbelievably kind words for yours truly.

photo by Crystalyn Kae (she of the drool-worthy, wildly-coveted handbags)

The show was a huge success with almost 10,000 shoppers in attendance. One fangirl highlight for me was when Kurt B. Reighley told me he liked my show playlist. (No, really… DJ El Toro said he liked my music selection, ok!? OK.) Kurt was knitting and, frankly, cuddly-looking, and signing his latest book United States of Americana: Backyard Chickens, Burlesque Beauties, and Handmade Bitters: A Field Guide to the New American Roots Movement.

I also joined the adoring hoardes who got to meet Anna Hrachovec and Twinkie Chan!

Next, I’m headed to Portland for Crafty Wonderland to booth it up with my UCU ladies Kristen Rask and Lindsey Ross. I’ll have a few kits and plenty of books so come find me at the Urban Craft Uprising booth and give us some love.
